The Renault Marine Couach RC8D is a very relyable and powerfull engine. Even when the ship was not used for 2 years, the Renault started at once.
As I mentioned before, the Renault is a 1 cylinder motor with 8 hp. This enige was never restored and still going strong. The fun part about this engine is that you can manually switch the dynamo off. This means the batteries won´t charge but the engine has more power. The engine can also be started manually with a start cord. The engine drives a 2 blade propeller.
In 1980 Renault stopped producing the ship diesel engines. Nannidiesel bought all the Renault equipment and went on producing the diesels under Nannidiesel flag.
During the replacing of the head gascet (see pics, page will be updated when job is finished), unfortunately the stud that holds the cylinder chamber and the head broke off. After seeking a new one for quite some time, I found one at Hatz in Culemborg (NL). Seems some engine parts of the Renault came from Hatz engines! They still make some spare parts like this stud! (specs: hardend steel (10.2), length 20.5 cm, M10 at bottom, M8 fine at top). They also seem to have original impellers for the waterpump (that might be a BMW pump). Didn't verify that yet though.
