The Gib'sea 24 is quite an unknown ship. Even the warf (Dufour in the present day) has only a couple of old brochures (see also the link at the bottom of this page). The Gib'sea 24 was developed and produced by Gibert Marine in France in the end of the seventies.
How many Gib'sea 24's were built is not known. Worldwide you will only find a few Gib'sea 24's, most of them sail in France. With luck you will find some Gib'sea 24's on sporting results. You can hardly find a Gib'sea 24 for sale.
This is remarkable because she is a very practical ship. With a LOA of 7.40 meters and a beam of 2.5 meters, the ship has a lot of internal space but still maintains a very modern and fast design on the outside. The Gib'sea 24 is also a very fast ship.
This ship was build in 1978 and is equipped with a 1 cylinder Renault marine couach RC8D engine. For more information on the motor, see link 'Technical information'.
A fixed fin keel (quillard) is mounted on our Gib'sea 24, the draft according to the original brochure is 1.15 meters. The Gib'sea 24 was also fitted with a haulable keel (dériveur lesté). This made the draft variable from 0.75 to 1.40 meters. The heigth including mast is about 10 meters.
Some other remarkable details of the Gib'sea 24 are:
The ship is equipped with a pull out galley wich is very practical,
Lots of room on the benches outside, you can sit here easily with 6 grownup's,
Underneath the benches outside, you can find 2 large storage compartments,
2 grownup's can easily sleep in the front cabin,
Lot's of storage room inside,
The strength of the ship is remarkable, she is also very stable,
The deckspace is enormous, the freeboard is very wide so you can easily run to the front deck,
The ship is equipped with an underwatertoilet,
I won't make this list too long, you can see it for yourselves on the picture page.
To continue on our ship, we were very lucky to have bought a ship wich is more than complete. The complete galley was renewed, a sprayhood was mounted, a table on the inside was installed, all the winches and other deck materials were renewed..................... I could go on for an hour.......
We found the Gib'sea 24 in a neglected situation on a warf in Friesland. She had been lying there for almost 2 years. Not a nice sight.... But she is in good hands now and being restoring more every day!
